General Information
Out-patient Consultation Mr Khalid Ayoub holds two private clinics in Glasgow: one at Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital near Great Western Road Ross on Monday Morning, and another at Ross Hall Hospital in Crookston on Monday afternoon. If you are a self-funding patient and wish to arrange an outpatient consultation at either hospital, please follow the instructions in the appointment booking box opposite to initiate your booking. If you are using private medical insurance, your insurer may sometimes arrange an appointment for you directly into Mr Ayoub’s clinic. However, if you are asked to make the booking yourself, please use the same instructions provided in the Consultation Booking box opposite. He should be able to consult you in approximately 1-2 weeks.
Referrals: If you are insured, please bring the referral letter or authorisation details issued or arranged by your medical insurer. If you are self-funding, it is strongly advisable to bring a referral letter from your GP outlining the condition for which you wish to see Mr Ayoub, together with details of any other medical conditions and your current medication. This information may be important in assessing your condition and planning for your treatment.
For most patients, a diagnosis can often be made during the first consultation, which usually lasts around 15-30 minutes. However, it is advisable to allow up to 60 minutes for your hospital visit, in case any investigations or tests are required on the same day.
During your consultation, Mr Ayoub will provide a clear explanation of your condition using helpful visual aids where appropriate, such as X-rays, joint models, sketches, or diagrams. He will then discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the available treatment options, helping you understand what may be most suitable for your individual circumstances.
If you wish, this discussion can also take into account important personal factors such as your work, sporting activities, lifestyle, expectations, and family or social commitments. There will be plenty of time in a relaxed and supportive setting for you to ask questions and make a fully informed decision about your treatment.
Where appropriate, Mr Ayoub may also be able to provide minor treatments during the same visit, such as joint or limb injections, surgical wound care.
If further specialist input is needed, Mr Ayoub will not hesitate to seek advice from, or arrange referral to, another Consultant or Specialist, always with your agreement and in your best medical interests.
If you wish to make any changes to your allocated appointment, or if you would like to arrange a further appointment, please use the contact details provided in the Consultation Booking box opposite.
Diagnostic Services
Further investigations are often required to assist Mr Khalid Ayoub in establishing an accurate diagnosis. A wide range of diagnostic tests may be arranged, including blood tests, X-rays, ultrasound scans, CT scans, MRI scans, bone scans, and nerve conduction studies.
Where imaging or specialist investigations are required, Mr Khalid Ayoub will provide you with the appropriately filled and signed request form for the specific test needed. You will then be asked to contact, or attend, the relevant radiology department to arrange your appointment. If you are covered by private medical insurance, it is your responsibility to obtain any necessary authorisation from your insurer before the investigation is carried out. For self-funding patients, the radiology department will usually be able to advise you directly regarding the cost of the test.
In most cases, these investigations can be arranged within a few days of being requested. The tests are interpreted and formally reported by a Consultant Radiologist and/or a Neurophysiology Specialist, depending on the type of investigation performed.
Some investigations, particularly ultrasound scans, MRI scans, and CT scans, may take several days after the scan for the images to be processed and the official report to become available. For this reason, Mr Khalid Ayoub will usually ask you to arrange a follow-up appointment in his clinic after your investigation. On the day of your scan, please either visit the outpatient desk to book your follow-up appointment or use the consultation appointment booking box opposite. When booking, please allow at least five working days between the date of your scan and your review appointment. As Mr Khalid Ayoub’s clinic is held on Mondays, your follow-up should be booked into a Monday clinic with this timescale in mind. Please note that it is your responsibility to arrange this appointment. If a follow-up appointment is not booked, there may be a delay in reviewing your scan results and moving forward with your diagnosis and treatment plan.
At your follow-up appointment, once the investigation results are available, Mr Khalid Ayoub will review the findings with you in detail. Where appropriate, he will show you the scan images and explain the results in clear, straightforward, and easy-to-understand terms. He will also discuss fully how these findings relate to your symptoms, diagnosis, and the most appropriate treatment options for your condition.
For further information about a specific investigation, including preparation, appointment availability, and fees, please contact the relevant hospital or radiology department directly.
Scheduled Operation
If surgery is required and agreed, it can usually be scheduled within a couple of weeks, subject to availability. The date of your operation will be discussed directly with Mr Ayoub in order to identify the most appropriate time within his theatre schedule, as he personally oversees the planning of his operating list.
If you later need to change the date of your surgery, please contact Mr Ayoub’s office using the contact details.
Once the day of surgery has been agreed, you will be given full instructions on how to prepare. This will include important information about fasting, food and drink, and guidance regarding your regular medications.
On medical grounds, it may sometimes be necessary to arrange certain tests and to discuss your condition with the anaesthetist before the planned procedure, in order to assess your fitness for surgery in advance. These assessments may include pre-operative health questionnaires and/or an appointment at the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic at the relevant hospital. This is to help ensure your safety, which is of paramount importance to Mr Ayoub and his team.
Any concerns or questions you may have will be fully discussed and addressed with you before proceeding with the operation.
Care After the Operation
Shortly after your operation, Mr. Ayoub will speak with you to explain how the procedure went and to outline the next steps in your recovery.
You will usually be reviewed by a physiotherapist during your hospital stay. They will provide clear guidance on how to protect the operated limb, including the use of a sling, bandage, or splint where appropriate, and will help you begin the early stage of your rehabilitation programme in accordance with Mr. Ayoub’s instructions. If you have undergone surgery on your leg, the physiotherapist will also assess your walking ability and advise you on your weight-bearing status before you are discharged home. Where necessary, outpatient physiotherapy will also be arranged.
You will also receive further advice from the nursing staff on your general care at home following surgery. This may include guidance on wound care, dressings, bathing, stitch removal, and any other important aspects of your post-operative care.
Before you leave hospital, any necessary medication related to your operation, such as pain relief or anti-inflammatory treatment, will be provided as appropriate. A follow-up outpatient appointment will also be arranged for you to see Mr. Ayoub at a later stage and to monitor your progress
