About Khalid
Mr Khalid Ayoub is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist expertise in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the shoulder and knee, alongside extensive experience in general orthopaedic and trauma surgery.
He was appointed as an NHS Consultant in Lanarkshire in 2007 and also practises privately at Ross Hall Hospital and Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital.
Mr Ayoub’s medical career began with the award of his MB, ChB degree in Medicine. During the latter part of medical school, it became clear that surgery was the career path he wished to pursue.
Following completion of his internship, he entered surgical training without delay. In 1992, he began his Basic Surgical Training (BST) in West Yorkshire, England, undertaking a Surgical SHO Rotation Programme across a broad range of specialties including Emergency Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, and Vascular Surgery. This early training provided a strong and diverse surgical foundation, culminating in the award of Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1996.
Academics and Research
Mr Ayoub has maintained a strong interest in research and academic orthopaedics throughout his career. He held a Research Registrar post at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, where he worked under the supervision of leading surgeons in the field of orthopaedic oncology. This experience provided him with valuable exposure to scientific research and advanced specialist practice.
He has contributed to the academic field through numerous publications and podium presentations at both national and international meetings. In addition, he completed a one-year postgraduate study programme at the University of Birmingham and, following submission of his dissertation, was awarded an MSc degree in 1998.

Higher Orthopaedic Surgery Training
Mr Ayoub continued his orthopaedic training at a higher specialist level through the Orthopaedic Registrar Training Programme in the West Midlands, England. During this period, he developed substantial expertise in general orthopaedic and trauma surgery.
At the completion of this programme, he successfully passed the Intercollegiate Examination of the four Royal Colleges of Surgeons and was awarded FRCS (Orth) in 2004
Subspecialist Orthopaedic Training
During the final two years of his higher surgical training, Mr Ayoub developed a focused subspecialist interest in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, using the latest technology and minimally invasive techniques.
He spent a year training at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, one of the UK’s leading specialist orthopaedic centres, where he gained valuable experience in the treatment of work-related and sports injuries. He then undertook further specialist fellowship training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery in Sheffield, expanding his expertise in complex upper limb conditions and advanced arthroscopic procedures.
Travelling Fellowship and International Visits
To broaden his knowledge and gain further insight into leading orthopaedic practice, Mr Ayoub undertook a Travelling Fellowship, visiting several internationally respected Centres of Excellence, including: • Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK
